Harvard GSD VIS 2475: Fortress of Solitude

Instructor:
Eric de Broche des Combes

Fortress of Solitude - a purely virtual, emotional space for self-reflection, detached from the real world. This space doesn't have to be “pleasant”; while it could be peaceful and contemplative, it might also evoke discomfort, anger, or conflict.

This project is built with Rhino, Blender and rendered in Unreal Engine.

My Fortress of Solitude, like my architectural creations in Minecraft, is an isolated castle. Inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s Castle of Cagliostro and the French animation The King and the Mockingbird, this fantastical structure is a bizarre and eclectic mix of architectural elements from around the world, set on an island in the middle of the sea. It’s a deeply personal project, drawing inspiration from the animations and media that shaped my childhood.

I would say that this castle is a gentle tribute to my childhood memories and fantasies.
