Detective Game. The 38th Annual ACM Symposium on User Interface oftware and Technology (UIST Adjunct ’25),
September 28-October 1, 2025. Busan, Republic of Korea.
UIST is a premier conference in the field of human–computer interaction and user interface technologies. It is renowned for its technical innovation and cutting-edge research, serving as a key platform for presenting next-generation interaction techniques and system research.
It serves as an external mastermind in the Mystery Analysis Division (MAD), helping you COLLECT and ASSOCIATE fragments of truth.
Roulettective is a physical interactive detective game machine that immerses players in a narrative-driven investigation experience. TThe project blends tangible interaction with AI-driven storytelling to create a unique mystery-solving interface.
At the heart of Roulettective is a vintage-inspired carousel mechanism that controls the progression of narrative slides. Players insert and rotate these physical slides to uncover clues, reveal characters, and unlock hidden associations. Acting as the external mastermind of the fictional "Mystery Analysis Division (MAD)," the system guides players through a layered detective narrative—generating and associating fragments of truth in real time.
This fusion of hardware (carousel, bulbs, Geneva mechanism) and software (AI-generated content) produces a richly atmospheric experience where physicality and fiction converge. Roulettective is both a game and an object of storytelling, reimagining mystery-solving as a tactile and cinematic interaction.
